    而言 (éryán) can attach to a noun or phrase to frame the perspective of a statement. It functions similarly to "speaking of" or "for," limiting the scope of the following comment to a particular topic or person.

    Examples

    • 对我而言，家人是最重要的。

      duì wǒ éryán, jiārén shì zuì zhòngyào de.

      For me, family is the most important.

    • 对初学者而言，这本教材很实用。

      duì chūxuézhě éryán, zhè běn jiàocái hěn shíyòng.

      For beginners, this textbook is very practical.

    • 对公司而言，人才是最大的财富。
