    爸 (bà) means "dad" or "father" and is an informal noun used to address or refer to one's father. It is often doubled as 爸爸 (bàba) in everyday speech and is one of the first words children learn.

    Examples

    • 爸，今天晚上我想请你吃饭。

      Bà, jīntiān wǎnshang wǒ xiǎng qǐng nǐ chīfàn.

      Dad, I'd like to treat you to dinner tonight.

    • 我爸做的红烧肉是全家最好吃的。

      Wǒ bà zuò de hóngshāoròu shì quán jiā zuì hǎochī de.

      The braised pork my dad makes is the best in the whole family.
