    跟着 (gēnzhe) means "to follow" or "along with." It indicates that one action or thing accompanies or follows another, as in 她的心脏也跟着加速 (her heart also sped up along with it).

    Examples

    • 音乐响起来了，大家跟着节奏一起拍手。

      Yīnyuè xiǎng qǐlái le, dàjiā gēnzhe jiézòu yīqǐ pāishǒu.

      The music started playing, and everyone clapped along to the rhythm.

    • 小狗一直跟着主人跑来跑去。

      Xiǎo gǒu yīzhí gēnzhe zhǔrén pǎo lái pǎo qù.

      The little dog kept following its owner, running back and forth.

    • 她一紧张，心脏也跟着砰砰跳。

      Tā yī jǐnzhāng, xīnzàng yě gēnzhe pēngpēng tiào.

      When she got nervous, her heart started pounding along with it.
