    Explanation

    距 (jù) means "to be distant from" or "at a distance of" and is used to express the spatial or temporal distance between two points. It commonly appears in the form 距…(有)…远, specifying how far apart things are.

    Examples

    • 我家距学校只有五分钟的路程。

      Wǒ jiā jù xuéxiào zhǐyǒu wǔ fēnzhōng de lùchéng.

      My home is only a five-minute walk from school.

    • 距上次见面已经过了三年了。

      Jù shàng cì jiànmiàn yǐjīng guòle sān nián le.

      It has already been three years since we last met.

    • 这里距市中心大约十公里。

      Zhèlǐ jù shì zhōngxīn dàyuē shí gōnglǐ.

      This place is about ten kilometers from the city center.
