    Explanation

    覆盖 (fùgài) means to cover or blanket an area. It is used when something spreads over or covers a surface, such as volcanic ash covering islands. For example, 火山灰覆盖了这些岛屿 means "volcanic ash covered these islands."

    Examples

    • 大雪覆盖了整个城市，到处都是白色的。

      Dà xuě fùgài le zhěnggè chéngshì, dàochù dōu shì báisè de.

      Heavy snow covered the entire city — everything was white.

    • 这片森林覆盖了将近一万平方公里的面积。

      Zhè piàn sēnlín fùgài le jiāngjìn yíwàn píngfāng gōnglǐ de miànjī.

      This forest covers an area of nearly ten thousand square kilometers.
