    As a preposition, 根据 (gēnjù) means "according to" or "based on" and introduces the source of information or the basis for a statement. It appears at the beginning of a sentence or clause, followed by the source, and then the main statement. This is a very common structure in both spoken and written Chinese.

    Examples

    • 根据天气预报，明天会有大雨。

      Gēnjù tiānqì yùbào, míngtiān huì yǒu dà yǔ.

      According to the weather forecast, there will be heavy rain tomorrow.

    • 根据老师的建议，我调整了学习计划。

      Gēnjù lǎoshī de jiànyì, wǒ tiáozhěngle xuéxí jìhuà.
