    Chinese Grammar

Expressing "etc." with preposition 等 (děng)

    HSK 3
    Listing & Enumeration

    Structure

    Item₁、Item₂ + 等 + Noun

    Explanation

Used as a preposition, 等 (děng) marks the end of a non-exhaustive list, indicating there are more items of the same kind. It functions like "such as… and so on" in English. For example, 数学、物理等学科 means "subjects such as math, physics, and so on."
