    上旬 (shàngxún) refers to the first ten days of a month (approximately days 1–10), dividing the month into three periods: 上旬, 中旬 (middle third), and 下旬 (last third). This system is commonly used in Chinese for specifying approximate dates. For example, 十月上旬 means "early October."
